My name is Federico Vasen. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and work as a professor and researcher at the University of Buenos Aires, the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), and the University of the City of Buenos Aires.
My work focuses on the analysis of science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy and research evaluation systems. I have studied the conceptual frameworks that guide STI policies, the mechanisms of academic evaluation in Latin America and the United States, and the challenges of assessing applied research.
I also serve as Assistant Editor at Engaging Science, Technology and Society, where I coordinate the peer review process. In addition, I have advised governments and public agencies in various Latin American countries on issues related to these areas.
I teach in the Master’s Program in Science and Technology Policy and Management at the University of Buenos Aires, where I coordinate the thesis preparation workshops. I have also taught undergraduate and graduate courses at various institutions, including the National Technological University, the National University of Córdoba, the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
My academic background is in philosophy, and I earned my Ph.D. from the National University of Quilmes with a dissertation on the emergence of institutional science policies at the University of Buenos Aires.
Currently, I am working on a project about so-called “predatory” journals, in collaboration with the Scholarly Communication Research Group at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland.
